KPU is committed to leading within our communities and shaping a sustainable future for current and future generations.

At KPU, sustainability has been long championed by many campus members. Recognizing the urgent need to address global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental injustices, in 2019 KPU created its first Sustainability Framework as part of the official campus plan, KPU2050, guiding sustainability efforts through 2050.

Building on this commitment, KPU also embedded sustainability as one of five key strategic goals in Vision 2023 (and later, Vision 2026), the university strategic plan, or roadmap for long-term priorities. Since establishing the Framework, KPU has made many formal commitments to sustainability, launched an Office of Sustainability, created a cross-departmental Sustainability Hub, and more.

What does ‘sustainability’ mean at KPU?

Sustainability means conducting all activities in such a way that fosters environmental health, social justice, and economic responsibility. KPU recognizes that human society and its economy are wholly encompassed by and inherently dependent on a healthy environment and the ways we care for the Earth.

For all life forms to flourish, now and in perpetuity, it is paramount that Indigenous worldviews are integrated into sustainability practice. Indigenous peoples – the original stewards of the land – offer invaluable insights and perspectives rooted in generations of co-existence and reciprocity with nature.

KPU is committed to a holistic, forward-looking, and ethical approach to navigating the complexity, interrelatedness, and intersectionality of sustainability challenges. We acknowledge that sustainability is an ongoing, collective responsibility that requires collaborative action and accountability for the impact of all our activities. Together, we will listen, learn, and act as stewards of the land and our communities.

Each week, student-brewed craft beer is available for purchase in growler fills and sometimes six-packs of cans or bottles. Image 27 Jul Drawing Club - Summer Edition (Richmond Campus) Mon, Jul 27, 2026, 2 - 3 PM Location: ENTA Lobby - 2nd Floor past Thanos Drawing Club | Summer Edition We're back again, at last! Now it's time to stretch, sketch and release the tension of the first weeks of the term. Our first meetup will be next Monday (June 22) from 2–3 PM in the ENTA Lobby. As you know, there are no rules Let's bring just paper and pencil, or a digital tablet, or play-doh, or any material that helps us go along. No judgement, no instructions. We generally do quick poses in 10 and 5 minute intervals, just to loosen up and have fun. Sometimes we jump to iPads to do some cell animation too! Open to eveyrone from our community. Exciting note: We will also announce a few outdoor drawing sessions soon. So, stay tuned!

The film follows the creation of a contemporary dance production inspired by the devastating legacy of Giant Mine on Yellowknives Dene territory, exploring themes of grief, environmental destruction, Indigenous memory, and the importance of live theatre in an increasingly artificial world. Tuesday, July 28 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
